Poynton Relief Road design and route go on show to public

-

THE design and route of the Poynton Relief Road is to be unveiled at a series of public meetings.

The £33m road will link the A6 with the Manchester Airport Relief Road (A6MARR) and aims to boost transport links to Macclesfield and cut traffic through Poynton.

Public support is for a 2m single carriageway to run south across the A5149 Chester Road, west of Lostock Hall Farm before connecting with a roundabout with link roads north and south to the A523 London Road.

The scheme also includes improvements to the junction with the A523 London Road including Adlington crossroads, Bonis Hall Lane, Issues Wood and Prestbury Lane.

Cheshire East Council, working in partnership with Stockport Council, is to hold six pre-planning consultation meetings and inviting residents, businesses and groups to have their say on the route and design.

The events will be held on the following days:

• Friday, October 16 from 1pm-5pm at Poynton Methodist Church

• Saturday, October 17 from 10am-4pm at Poynton Town Hall

• Monday, October 19 from 3pm–8pm at Legh Arms, Adlington

• Tuesday, October 20 from 2pm–7pm at Prestbury Village Hall

• Wednesday, October 21 from 10am–4pm at Woodford Community Centre

• Thursday, October 22 from 2pm–7pm at Woodford Community Centre.

Councillor David Brown, cabinet member for highways, said: “Since the preferred route was announced in December 2014, we have been developing the design for Poynton Relief Road.

“Before we submit a planning application, we are keen to hear your views to ensure we have the best possible solution.”

A month-long public consultation in the summer saw 1,653 people give their views with 90 per cent coming out in support of the scheme and only six per cent against it.

The road will be funded by the Department of Transport, Cheshire East Council and the private sector.

Over the last 65 years Poynton has seen a dramatic increase in traffic travelling between the M60 to the north and Macclesfield in the south.

The road was part of the original A6MARR plans but was cut due to funding constraints.

Those unable to attend the events can find out more about the proposals at the Cheshire East Council website.
