Mayor’s thanks for civic parade
THE mayor of Bollington has thanked people around the town for playing their part in a special civic day.
Bollington Civic Sunday takes place each year as a way for people around the town to get together and celebrate their community.
It culminates in awards for residents for their services to the community and is an occasion for the town mayor to congratulate residents for their achievements.
This year it was the turn of Coun Angela Williams.
The date is chosen as it is the Sunday nearest to the anniversary of the Battle of Britain and this year coincided with the battle’s 75th anniversary.
The parade started from the Community Centre on Ovenhouse Lane and went around the Bollington Cross area before ending in St Oswald’s Church for the Civic Service.
Coun Williams said it was a special event this year as the youngsters from Bollington Squadron Air Training Corps took part in the service by giving a short presentation and also one of the cadets read a lesson.
She said: “The other lesson was read by Macclesfield MP David Rutley, who also took part in the parade along with Bollington town councillors, leaders of other councils and myself.
“We were well supported by voluntary organisations – cubs, beavers, scouts, brownies, guides, the ATC, the British Legion and Bollington Brass Band.
“The church was full to bursting point for the service.
“Afterwards, everyone was invited into the school hall next door for refreshments, where an award was made to Martin Tute in recognition of his work in raising funds for many organisation including the Town Mayor’s Welfare Fund.
“Two more awards will be made but the recipients were not present on the day.
“I would like very much to thank everyone for their participation and support on the day.
“It was good to see so many young people taking part and the really small ones did very well in keeping up with parade.
“The route taken was around the ward which I represent so I thought that it was appropriate to have the parade in that area.
“It was a special day.”
