Charity celebrates 120th year
PRESTBURY Golf Club hosted a very special event when a children’s charity celebrated it 120th anniversary.
The East Cheshire branch of the NSPCC has been active for more than a hundred years, and is one of the top five fundraising branches in the country.
Since being established in 1895, the NSPCC has been tireless in its work to tackle child abuse and neglect across the country. It is the leading children’s charity in the UK, specialising in child protection and dedicated to the fight for every childhood. It is also the only UK children’s charity with statutory powers and that means it can take action to safeguard children at risk of abuse. The charity has also run ChildLine since 2006, which offers children the opportunity to receive support and advice from trained counsellors 365 days a year.
Its members enjoy a wide and varied programme of activities throughout the year.
Among the guests on the day was David Rutley, MP for Macclesfield.
Mr Rutley has worked on numerous projects since becoming an MP to support young people, including taking part in a Parliamentary inquiry to protect children online.
He has also taken a strong interest in making young people’s mental health a greater priority, which the NSPCC also supports.
He said: “I am very pleased to have been able to help the NSPCC recognise this excellent achievement. The charity has helped countless children with their challenges, great or small, and its work remains as important as ever. I look forward to continuing to work with the East Cheshire branch in the future, and building on the real progress made in providing better support for children over recent years.”
