Dame Sarah joins quest to get more people in the saddle

-

BRITAIN’S most decorated paralympic athlete has been drafted in to help the town become more cyclefriendly.

Dame Sarah Storey, who lives in Disley and has a total of 11 gold medals – including three for cycling – met with Macclesfield MP David Rutley to talk about how to encourage people to cycle more.

They also looked at new initiatives that Sarah is keen to support, such as the council’s bid to host part of this year’s Tour of Britain.

Mr Rutley, who was joined by deputy leader of the council David Brown, said: “It was an honour, once again, to meet Dame Sarah, who is such a well-respected ambassador for cycling.

“Cycling is a great way to help more people keep physically active and is a truly sustainable form of transport – more needs to be done to support it.”

There was also a discussion about how road safety could be improved and promoted, and working with more local cycling groups.
