MACCLESFIELD Ladies lost out 4-3 at home against Neston in their opening game of the year.

It was a tough contest from the start with Neston taking an early lead via a goal converted from a short corner.

Macclesfield worked hard, putting pressure on Neston with Vicky Haylings and Angela Duffy working together, releasing the ball to the forwards.

Macclesfield were determined to get a goal and their hard work paid off when they were awarded a short corner from which Claire Barlow scored with an excellent strike from the top of the D.

With some great calling and working together, Macclesfield put pressure on the Neston defence, but they were unable to score thanks to some excellent saves from the opposition goalkeeper.

Neston counter attacked and were awarded a short corner which they converted to make it 2-1 at the break.

A determined team talk saw the home team come out stronger and quicker at the start of the second half.

Great pressure by Emma Horton on the defence caused an error and she converted the goal from an acute angle.

It was an evenly contested game in the second half, but it was Neston who stepped it up with quick passing to score their third goal.

Macclesfield did not allow their heads to drop and turned it around with Jess Carol and Sarah Duffy running at the defence, putting on the pressure, and the hard work paid off when Emma Houghton pulled one back and then a short corner from Angela Duff was knocked in by Jess Carol.

With the score at 3-3 the rain came down, Macclesfield allowed Neston to break through and they got the winning goal.

A disappointed Macclesfield team could not get the equaliser in the final minutes.
