Girls among best in robot contest
ATEAM of eight students from Fallibroome Academy have excelled in a national competition with their homemade robot.
Neve Forbes, Hannah Eccleston, Eleanor Laughton, Megan Francis, Rachel Stanley, Ella Banks, Libby Tennant and Nimra Zubair, from year nine, have been working in the electronics department at school every lunchtime to build and program a robot for the national VEX Robotics competition.
The all-girl team reached the finals after winning the North West regional heats, and came 24th in the overall competition.
Oliver Hardman, design and technology teacher at the school, said: “We are very proud of the achievement of our team of young electronics students. They worked very hard to reach the national finals and represented the school with great enthusiasm.”
The girls won the North West regional heats after winning two of the challenges outright and coming joint first in the third challenge.
As there was only one trophy for each challenge and Fallibroome had already been awarded two of them the organisers decided to give the programming trophy to the other team.
