Matty comes in to boost left side
MACCLESFIELD Town have strengthened their squad after signing Barnsley’s Matty Templeton on loan until the end of the season.
John Askey was keen to add to his squad before the loan deadline, with the Templeton signing going through just in time.
The 19-year-old can play as a left-back or as a winger, and was part of the Macclesfield squads that took on Grimsby and Gateshead during Easter weekend.
He has come through the youth ranks at Barnsley, culminating in him completing a successful two-year scholarship with the side.
Templeton impressed for both the under 18 and under 21 sides, leading to him signing a professional contract with the club.
He broke into the Tykes first team earlier this year, making his competitive debut in the Capital One Cup match and Scunthorpe United back in December.
The youngster made his Oakwell debut as a late substitute against Blackpool, and he ensured it was one to remember when he scored late on.
Those appearances came under former Barnsley manager Lee Johnson, with Paul Heckingbottom now in caretaker charge of the League One club after Johnson left to take over at Bristol City.
The switch in boss has coincided with Templeton receiving fewer chances in the first team, resulting in the loan switch to Macclesfield.
Templeton joins a Silkmen side that are 10th in the National League table after back to back victories.
He could make his first appearance for his new side when they host Braintree at the Moss Rose on Saturday.
