Hundreds walk this way for hospice
A BUMPER turnout helped make the Starlight Walk another outstanding success for East Cheshire Hospice.
More than 600 walkers strolled through the picturesque grounds of Capesthorne Hall on Friday (April 22), raising around £50,000 for the charity.
Walkers enjoyed a dry pleasant evening as they set off on a route which took them through a forest, some opting for one 2.5k loop with others covering two or even four circuits.
Walkers lit candles and dropped pebbles into a pond in moving tributes of remembrance.
Jessica Ruth, events manager at the hospice, said: “We’d like to thank everyone for making the occasion such an outstanding success.
“There was a terrific atmosphere and everyone joined in the spirit of the event.
“Starlight Walk is part of the bereavement journey for many people and a fitting way of helping them remember loved ones.
“I’d like to say a special thanks to our caterers and the 70 volunteers who made sure everyone was safe.
“The funds raised are the equivalent of a week’s care at East Cheshire so the donations we receive from entries and sponsorship are vital to keep the hospice running.”
Walkers are asked to return sponsorship monies as soon as possible by either bringing donations into the hospice or emailing events@echospice.org.uk.
