Singing florist hits right note with flower club
FLOWER enthusiasts at Prestbury Flower Club were entertained by demonstrator Jane Pugh and her demonstration, ‘Dance the night away’.
Jane is a florist in Bishop’s Castle, south of Shrewsbury, and shares her passion for flowers with that of singing.
Lesley Stafford, the club’s programme secretary, praised Jane’s ability to do accomplish several tasks at once.
She said: “While demonstrating Jane played music to accompany her songs, which is multitasking indeed!
“Her flowers were lovely and she gave her audience stunning green, white, yellow, red and pink arrangements.
“Her finale to ‘singing the blues’ was a lovely, large, blue arrangement.”
Ladies at the club heard how the singing florist enters National Association of Floral Artists shows and competitions and belongs to the West Mercia clubs area.
After being narrowly beaten in competition for a sponsored trip to the next World Association Show, Jane vowed she would enter anyway.
Lesley said: “She then had a shock when she had to pay a fee of £160 to enter her chosen class, in addition to the airfare to and accommodation in the destination for the show, Barbados!
“Now she has paid the deposit she can pay by instalments and said maybe when she had paid the last one the actual trip would feel free!
“She intended to go to a famous Bajan bar and try all their cocktails, but at six an evening she might fail to remember the show!”
The flower club also had a petite competition, with a limit of nine inches only, entitled ‘garden snippets’.
President Lucienne Nichol was said to be ‘delighted’ with the 10 entries, which demonstrator Jane agreed to judge. Jackie Burns was declared the winner of the competition with an arrangement praised by Lesley as ‘very pretty’.
The next demonstration will be held at Prestbury village hall on Wednesday, July 6 with David Mason.
The demonstration will be titled ‘Yesterday, today and tomorrow’ and starts at 1.45pm. Visitors are welcome. The entrance fee is £5.
