MBBC five take on Tamesiders

- BOXING

YOUNGSTERS from Macclesfield Boys Boxing Club were in action recently as they competed in a series of skills contests at Tameside Elite Boxing Academy.

MBBC took five boxers over to help improve their boxing capabilities as well as the nerves associated with competing in a foreign venue.

The Straw brothers Joe and Noel both did excellent in their debut contests against very capable opponents, they enjoyed every second of their bouts even though both found it hard fitness wise, but it allowed the coaches the chance to see how they perform.

Next up was Lucas Earle, who has been in the gym since he was seven and turned ten this month and wasn’t waiting around.

He was chomping at the bit to get his first debut over and with loads of support he performed exactly as was expected using the ring well and scoring off the lead foot as well as on the back foot with counters.

He just looked so at home in the ring and comfortable under pressure, and he enjoyed every minute.

Back in the ring after a few months lay off due to school commitments was Joe Bradley, who made his return to the ring against a very capable kid from Chadderton Boxing Club who was quite a good little boxer with nice foot work.

Joe’s strong come forward style saw him throwing powerful shots, but there was a bit of ring rust and he was a little heavier than when he last boxed.

It will hopefully give him the incentive to get some hard work done in preparation for next season, and it was still a great move around for both lads and a real crowd pleaser.

Last out was Danny Hibbert who was on fire with his ideal frame.

He has all the attributes to do well in amateur boxing and it showed in his first bout of the day as he dominated his opponent throughout, so much so that after a couple of bouts he was asked if he minded jumping back in the ring with a fresh opponent.

Danny was immediately up for it, taking the opportunity to show his boxing ability again this time against a southpaw lad who was quite game but again no match for Danny’s long reach and ring craft as Danny proceeded to pick his shots at will scoring every time in another good display of what boxing is about.

It was a great day out at a fantastic venue, which was well attended with some really nice people enjoying watching the youngsters do their stuff.
