People are a firm’s greatest strength

THE North East Cheshire Business Awards celebrate the best in business across Macclesfield and East Cheshire, and take place for the sixth time in November.

This year there are 11 categories open to the region’s businesses, with entries welcome from all businesses regardless of size – you just have to get your nominations in before the deadline of September 30.

As part of our coverage of the area’s biggest celebration of local enterprise, the Express is talking to the category sponsors each week to see why they are supporting the event.

This week we talk to Rachel Kay, CEO and principal fo Macclesfield College.

Rachel has held this post for the past 12 months and has 10 years’ experience in further education as a senior leader and post graduate Level 7 in Strategic Leadership.

Which award are you sponsoring?

We are sponsoring the Apprentice of the Year Award.

Why have you got involved with the business awards?

As the local college, we are passionate about supporting all local businesses and the community alike. We were delighted last year to have been awarded the silver award for the Best Company to Work For in the North East Cheshire Business Awards, and wanted to support the awards even more this year by becoming a sponsor.

Why did you choose to sponsor this particular award?

Maxim Business Training is the employer responsive arm of the college, and is dedicated to growing apprenticeship provision in line with the government agenda.

Helping local businesses realise their potential through growth and skills is at the heart of what we do as an organisation, ensuring each of our learners has an opportunity to build and hone their skills locally to support the Cheshire East economy.

Why is North East Cheshire such a great place to do business?

Cheshire East is a vibrant area with many entrepreneurs, exceptional support networks for businesses, and with many new SMEs setting up and continually supporting the skills and talent for the local economy.

What is your best piece of business advice?

People are your greatest assets – spend time building incredible teams and the rest will come!

Anything else would like to add?

Macclesfield College is passionate about skills, education and training, and we consider ourselves to be at the heart of our community. We are here to serve our community, providing training and support to empower people to realise their potential and support the economy and businesses across the county. you
