Songwriter hoping it is second time lucky at Amercian awards

-

A MUSICIAN is celebrating after being nominated for a prestigious music award.

James Stordy, 29, from Craig Road, Macclesfield, has been shortlisted in the Pop category of the Hollywood Music in Media Awards.

He wrote the song, Yesterdays, with a friend, Andrew Capra, who lives in America.

The songwriting partnership made headlines last year after being nominated in the same award for their pop-rock ballad ‘Unafraid’ – despite having never met in person.

They didn’t walk away with the gong, but James is hoping to scoop the award this time around.

It continues a run of success with songwriting competitions following James and Andrew’s recent victory in the American Songwriting Awards, where Yesterdays won in the Best Rock category.

However, James has a dilemma. The ceremonies take place at the same time in November, one in Los Angeles and one in Las Vegas.

James said: “I am so proud to win at the American Songwriting Awards and to be nominated for the Hollywood Music in Media Awards again.

“Andrew and I have formed a really good partnership. We get on really well and seem to come from the same place.

“I think I might have to skip the LA award and go to the Vegas one as that’s definite. It would be too expensive to do both, unless they are a few days apart.

“The prizes at the awards are good, but the main motivation is the exposure and what that could bring.

“It has been a great journey so far.”

Lyrics from Yesterdays include the lines: “Just say you love me, and I will do the same. I’d wait forever, just to hear you say my name. If youth is wasted on the young then here I’ll stay, I will give you my tomorrows, just like, just like our yesterdays.”

James contacted Andrew, who lives in America, after hearing his vocals on a website.

He said: “We began emailing each other then eventually moved onto Skype.

“Finally meeting him last year was very strange. He’s a great guy.”

The former Henbury High School pupil, who started to play the guitar when he was 12, has written music for the BBC, including Crimewatch, RTE Ireland and Harlequins Rugby TV.

James’s ambition is not fame, but recognition as a songwriter.

He said: “I’m not a performer as such, and don’t gig, but I love to write songs. I would love to make a career out of songwriting and do it full time.”
