Holt’s out in front of field at Prestbury

A MIDWEEK Stableford for Prestbury’s men had a runaway winner in Andrew Holt with his 43-point haul taking him five clear of David Rowley and Martin Lee.

Prestbury ladies played for the Dora Hill Trophy and Cheshire star Jae Bowers showed her class taking top spot with 76 from Barbara Boyd and Jillian Morris, both 78.

The Pairs Trophy at Shrigley Hall was taken by the family firm of Jeff and Daniel Henshaw with 43 points, one more than Andrew Ellis and Ian Roebuck.

The Thursday Stableford at Shrigley needed a cpo on 33 points to see Daniel Chesters into top spot from Janet Gates.

Alderley Edge’s men played for the Centenary Trophy and Dan Feathersto­ne was top of the shop with 40 points from Gavin Elly 39.

A BB Stableford for Edge’s ladies had Sue Kendrick and Yvonne Grundy in charge with 37 points, one more than Liz McGuire and Olwen Davies.

It was close in the battle for the Hovis Cup at Macclesfie­ld with Alan Duckworth leading in division one after a cpo on 65 with Thomas Rigby.

In division two it also needed a countback on 72 with Pete Rawcliffe having the edge from Andy Blench.

A three-way tie on 33 points in a singles Stableford for Macc ladies went in favour of Alycia Sutton from Jill Higgins and Gill Evans.

A Wednesday medal at Styal saw Ian Thomason as a convincing winner as he went clickety click to finish ahead of Seb Wright 69 and Tom Bloor 70.

Nick Gillings was also out on his own in a Styal Seniors Stableford posting 42 points to lead in from Clive Senior 39 and Kevin Bocquet and Howard Dickson, both 38.

Styal ladies played a BB Stableford as they competed for the Holohan Trophy and first past the post were Mel Hill and Joan Andrews with 43, four more than Lisa Bennett and Helen Billington and Claire Whitney and Aileen Holohan.

Sunday Stableford action at Mottram Hall had Vipan Jain on top with 42 points, four more than Robert Parry and Mike Chandler.

Cheshire fielded a young and promising Boys team to take on Derbyshire Boys at Matlock Golf Club.

They fully justified their selection and showed great potential for a bright future as they posted an emphatic 10.5-3.5 victory.

In the morning foursomes there were wins for Tom and Oscar Doran (Delamere Forest), Remy Miller (Tytheringt­on) and Liam Mann (Hazel Grove) and Sam Johnson (Astbury) and Jack Muir (Styal) with Hywel Shaw (Wilmslow) and Jack McLeod (Styal) halving their match.

The team kept up their momentum in the afternoon singles with seven more wins.

They came from George Mitchell (Congleton), Sam Long (Delamere Forest), Jack Mcleod, Tom Doran, Oscar Doran, Remy Miller and Jack Muir.

THE Balfour and Houldswort­h Committee have staged the Houldswort­h Trophy since 1897 and Bury Golf Club were excellent hosts for this year’s competitio­n that attracted 56 pairs from 20 golf clubs within a 25-mile radius of Manchester Town Hall.

Bramhall duo Ian Denby and Richard Ellis were first on the tee at 8am and posted a superb 11up score in the par competitio­n and unusually their score held on to win the day.

Next in on +8 were Chorlton father and son duo Richard and Robert Mallard who won a cpo from home pair David McDougal and Colin Stephenson and Chorlton’s Liam Harrison and John Craine.
