Bollington fall to heavy defeat

- CRICKET TOM HORSFIELD

BOLLINGTON travelled to Weaverham with both sides sitting in mid table at the halfway point in the season, with a win for either side pushing them close to the top of the table.

A familiar theme was present when the two sides met for the toss, a two hour rain break before play would start, which would see the game reduced to 37 overs per side.

Both sides were met by tricky conditions when play finally got underway, as the rain still continued to effect the game for the first 10 overs.

Bollington started well, taking a wicket within the first over, and then again with the scores at 19-2. Both openers Binder and Kippie with one a piece.

A robust Weaverham partnership didn’t allow Bollington to build any pressure as the scores started to increase and the game approached the half way point. Eaton and Cornwall were going well with the scores at 80-2.

The lack of wickets allowed the home side to build their innings and after the drinks break they propelled the score, with a slight interruption of a wicket every 40 runs scored.

Jake Dickinson, with his first delivery, removed Eaton for 40, seeing the scores at 92-3.

Lewis was the next to fall, J Dickinson again removing the Weaverham batsman for 22. At the other end, Cornwall was terrorising, hitting a barrage of sixes around the ground to give his side a strong foothold in the match.

Dickinson struck one last time, removing Waterhouse for 13 and carrying his side to the 200 mark, seeing Cornwall hit an unbeaten 93.

In reply, capitulated beginning.

The first wicket came with 19 runs were on the Bollington from the board, Hough removed for 11, closely followed by H Dickinson for 18.

Two more wickets fell without troubling the scores to leave the visitors with a lot to do.

Kippie and Henshaw were the only men to score double figures as Bollington saw their selves bowled out of 84.

Bollington look to turn it around next week against Oxton, who sit just one place below them at the half way point in the season.
