MACCLESFIELD Cricket Club hosted their annual under eights Sixers Tournament recently, the largest in the North West. Not only did they host this massive day of cricket, their Lions team were tournament winners too!

Some 24 teams, from as far away as Liverpool, took part, with every team playing at least four games of cricket. Peter Roots, Liverpool CC Coach said: “Thank you so much to Macclesfield for organising the tournament.

“The kids had a great time and the parents were really impressed with the event.”

The day was not only a fantastic day of cricket but also a fundraiser for the academy raising over £2000. Jo Boyd, Organiser, said “It was a real family day with a hog roast, bouncy castle and of course the bar was open!”

The tournament was won by the Macclesfield Lions team who were unbeaten all day.

The winners of group 1 were Poynton and the winners of group 2 were Prestbury. Ben Wilshaw, Macclesfield Lions player said: “I really enjoyed the tournament and it was great to be able to play so many matches in one day. I’m so happy that we won!”

The tournament was sponsored by Chrome Motors, East Cheshire Mortgages, PR Jones, Burns Garages and The Jolly Sailor. Duncan Ross, Organiser and Academy Coach said: “A massive thank you to all of our sponsors, it was an amazing day of cricket, made even better by the fabulous weather! This is an important bench mark completion for eight-yearold cricketers and one that is always a huge success.”
