MP awash with information on hygiene firm’s work with pupils
A HANDWASHING firm helped MP David Rutley scrub up on a visit to the company.
The staff at Cutlers, a family owned cleaning products distribution company in Bollington, welcomed Mr Rutley to learn about their initiatives to encourage children to wash their hands correctly.
Mr Rutley met with Paul Whitehead, director, Iain Bell, sales director, John Whitehead, commercial director, and the team to learn how properly washed hands can improve health and save lives.
The company recognised that most people were unaware of the correct method of handwashing but that young children and those in key stages one and two can be taught as part of the National Curriculum.
The company undertook research with the Health Protection agency and skincare products manufacturer Deb Limited and devised Ollie, a cheeky orangutan character who features on Cutler’s bright green soap dispenser and support package. The package includes a hand wash training DVD that was especially commissioned and filmed to convey the message to young children.
Mr Rutley said: “I was very pleased to find out more about the business and how the products help provide a cleaner and safer environment. Regular hand washing should be a basic practice for us all and I’m happy to support the important work being done to ensure that the risk of spreading avoidable infections is minimised.”
Cutlers predominantly has customers in the North West, although it provides services to the leisure, care, facilities management and commerce market sectors, with around half of its sales to schools and children’s nurseries.
