●● BRITAIN’S internatio­nal cycling race The Tour of Britain will pass through Prestbury village on September 6.

The Tour is the UK’s biggest profession­al cycling race as well as the largest free to watch annual sporting event.

More than a million spectators are expected to come and witness the eight day event, which features 20 teams, including 10 World Tour teams.

One of the groups will be led by 2012 Tour de France winner Sir Bradley Wiggins.

Prestbury Parish Council is asking all local businesses and residents to decorate the village in red, white and blue - the colours of the tour, for the occasion and to come out to cheer the riders along.

Race participan­ts are expected to come through the village at around 1pm on the day.

Prestbury Parish Council clerk Georgina Ryder wrote on the council’s website: “What a great advertisem­ent it would be for Prestbury if we could show the watching millions that we can decorate our wonderful village as well as any in France.” ●● THE owner of Broad Heath House on Slade Lane in Over Alderley has applied for planning permission to demolish the existing house and build another one in its place.

Comments on the applicatio­n must be submitted to Cheshire East Council before Wednesday, August 24 and a decision is scheduled for September 19. ●● PRESTBURY Cricket Club are holding a Charity Dinner in aid of teenagers with cancer on Friday, August 19 at the Bridge Hotel in Prestbury.

Tickets are available from the cricket club.

There will also be a raffle on the night. All funds raised will go to the Teenage Cancer Trust.
