Hospice has swing in its step after golf day raises thousands
A GOLF day in aid of East Cheshire Hospice has raised more than £7,800.
The annual event at Prestbury Golf Club is run by John Davies, managing director for Mactex Properties in Macclesfield, along with former professional golfer Nigel Preston.
The competition saw 19 teams go head to head in a ‘Fourball Better Ball Stableford’, where two players play as partners, each playing the hole and the best score of the attempts recorded.
Companies taking part included Arighi Bianchi, Interflex Marketing and Chrome Motors, with each company paying a fee to enter their team into the competition, which included lunch and a three-course meal in the evening.
Other businesses also sponsored a hole on the course to add to the funds raised.
The golf club’s general manager David Holmes said: “It was a great day and luckily the heavy rain shower that descended only started after the competition had finished.
“It is fantastic that a local charity that has been so dear to so many people’s hearts has been able to raise such a large sum of money.
“There is a long association between the charity and the club and it’s great that we are able to help them in this way.”
Leah Goodhind, East Cheshire Hospice community fundraiser, stressed how important such events were.
She said : “Fundraising events like Prestbury Golf Day are the reason that we are able to keep on providing first class specialist care at East Cheshire Hospice.
“John and the team have raised thousands for the hospice over the years and we really could not be more grateful.
“The money raised from this fantastic event will go directly towards providing patient care.”
