Charities win big after town’s sheepdog trials
CHARITIES were presented with money raised at last year’s sheepdog trials.
Representatives from East Cheshire Hospice, Ronald McDonald House, Macmillan Nurses and Rossendale Trust gathered at Sutton Hall Farm to meet members of the Macclesfield Sheep Dog Trials Association to receive donations raised at the trials.
MP David Rutley attended, as well as Ann and Bud Eardley from the farm.
The association raises money each year for chosen charities at the trials which are held at Sutton Hall Farm. But the money handed over this year came from a special event last year when the regular trials moved aside for the English National Sheep Dog Trials, which attracted dog handlers from around the country.
The association ran events including a raffle and donated £500 to each charity.
Vicky Clampett, secretary who lives in Bosley, said: “Each year at our AGM we choose different charities to support. The trials are a great opportunity to raise money for local causes.”
The association is making arrangements for this year’s Macclesfield Sheep Dog Trials which has a record number of 80 dogs and their handlers taking part.
Vicky said: “Everything is going to plan and we have entries from far and wide. Handlers at the local trials get points to go towards the English nationals.
“The trials are a great day out for everyone.”
Macclesfield and District Sheepdog Trials run from Friday, August 12 to Sunday, August 14, with a tug of war, craft fair and other entertainment.
