Pott let victory slip out of grasp

- TONY HUTTER

TWICE it seemed that home side Pott Shrigley had the game against Tranmere Victoria in their grasp.

With the visitors batting first they reduced them to 59-5 before the bottom half of their batting order fought back with B. England scoring 48 from number nine.

By the time the last wicket fell the score had risen to a very competitive 185.

For Pott, Kyle Patterson stuck to his task and was rewarded with 6 for 52 with Matt Tarr weighing in at the end with 2 for 13.

Although disappointed to have allowed Tranmere such a competitive total, with extra overs to add to the Pott Shrigley innings it certainly appeared to be an achievable total.

It certainly seemed to be the case as Matt Tarr and Jamie Hart took their opening stand to 69 before Hart was caught for 21.

At 127-2 Shrigley were cruising comfortably to their target with plenty of overs in hand.

However, at this point Tarr was caught behind for a wonderfully aggressive 94 and the game began to change.

Confidence drained away as wickets started to fall and overs ticked by.

What had appeared to be a comfortable task became increasingly difficult with several batsmen irresponsibly getting themselves out and with Tranmere becoming ever more encouraged by the collapse taking place in front of them they claimed the last wicket with the score at 177.

Although Shrigley picked up 15 points they should reflect painfully on the 10 that slipped away.
