Junior teams claim High Peak crowns
THE end of the High Peak League has seen Macclesfield Cricket Club winners in not just one but two age groups!
The U13s travelled to Stockport Trinity CC for their final whilst the U9s had their final at home against Poynton Cricket Club. Both sides played some fantastic cricket in some beautiful weather!
In the U13s match Stockport Trinity CC won the toss, elected to bat and finished with Macclesfield needing 47 to win. This they achieved with confidence.
The U13 Coach Andy commented “This is exactly what the lads deserved, they have worked very hard to improve their game throughout the season, and every player who has played in the HPL games has done just that - improved. They are a credit to the club.”
The boys were presented with medals and the shield was presented to birthday boy Alex Davies. Season Debutant Jack Hutchings said “It was so good to win. I have really enjoyed my 1st season with Macclesfield Cricket Club and can’t wait for next season.”
Meanwhile, in the U9s final The Macclesfield Lions had with a thrilling victory winning by just 6 runs. They scored 257 for 4 with Poynton finished on 251 for 14. U9s coach Robin Farmer said: “Every player did their part in the game and they all contributed to a fantastic team effort. Well played all!”
The game was won on the last ball with a dramatic run out by Marco Dennis. Ben Farmer, U9s player said, “It was such an exciting match and Poynton played brilliantly. I’m so pleased we won though! Everyone was celebrating!”
In the same weekend the U9s team were also winners of the Poynton Cricket Club Sixers Tournament, bringing yet more silverware back to Macclesfield!
