Sandback take advantage as Langley slip

LANGLEY 1st XI suffered another defeat at the weekend when they were brushed aside by visitors Sandbach.

On a warm day, Sandbach won the toss and elected to bowl, Frame and Turner opened the bowling, the score reached 20 when Frame had Kesteven 14 well caught at extra cover by Pattison. Taylor edged his first ball through slip and was then bowled second ball by the skipper.

South African Nel and Brooks led the fightback and took the score to 59 before Brooks was caught and bowled by Frame.

Betteridge then had Whitby (0) caught behind to leave Sandbach on 60-4. Nel continued to hold the innings together. Mixing attack and defence, he brought up his half century but on 59 he was trapped LBW by Frame. Betteridge then had Jones caught behind as Sandbach struggled to 84-6.

Berzins replaced Betteridge and struck in his first over as Bollan (6) was caught at short cover and when Frame bowled McEvoy (1) Langley were in control with the score on 95-8. Credit to Arton as he hit four boundaries for 25 before Letven bowled Jones (5) and then claimed Arton’s wicket after he chipped to Cartwright at square leg as the innings closed on 125 all out.

Skipper Frame led the way taking 5-39 from 17 overs, backed up by Letven (2-13 off 3.3 overs), Betteridge (2-28 from 10 overs) and Berzins (1-20 from five overs).
