Peover pulling power

TUG of war teams from around the country will be gathering at the Cheshire Game and Angling Fair at Peover Hall this Sunday 7 August to compete in the Cheshire Open Tug of War Championships.

The event is being staged by the Cheshire Game and Angling Fair and Bosley Tug of War Club, and will be judged by Tug of War Association officials

Teams from afar afield as Devon, Somerset and Northumberland are expected at the event which was will be held over four weight classes for men’s teams, three weight classes for ladies and junior teams, and also a mixed weight for senior teams, with each team comprising four men and four ladies.

Each weight class was a combined weight of eight pullers, with each team weighing in at the start of the day, with the teams not being allowed to exceed the nominated weight limit in each weight class.

The Tug of War proved to be a popular attraction at the 2015 Cheshire Game and Angling Fair, with large crowds gathering around the tug of war arena all day to watch the teams taking part battle it out in some thrilling competition which resulted in overall victories for the Norton Tug of War Club from Stoke-onTrent in Staffordshire, winning the gold medals in all three of the men’s weight classes up for grabs last year.

Cheshire interest in the event will come from Bosley Tug of War Club who this weekend competed at the East of England Tug of War Championships in Bedford, winning the mens 600kg competition and finishing as runners up in the 640kg competition.
