Tournament is big hit all round
THE annual Chrome Motors Soccer Tournament once again proved a great success. Organisers, participants and spectators were fortunate to be blessed with good weather and the event attracted fantastic support from the local community, local organisations and businesses, the teams, parents and coaches.
There were competitive games throughout the day, with teams demonstrating good sportsmanship.
In the under 9s tournament, the cup semi-finals were contested by Glenavan, River Juniors, Mavericks and Shots with Glenavan and Shots progressing to contest the final. After an excellent game, Shots emerged victorious by two goals to one.
In the under 9s plate, FC Sports beat Fletcher Moss in the first semi-final and Cheadle and Gatley beat Barr Hill in the second one. Cheadle and Gatley then won the final by two goals to one.
The under 11s competition also produced some great skill and entertainment. The cup semi-finals of the cup competition were won by Shots, who beat Cheadle and Gatley three nil, and Alderley and Stanley Park. Stanley Park won this game by three goals to one.
The final was a game of high quality which, after no goals in normal or extra time, was settled by penalties with Stanley Park winning 5-4.
The Plate competition was also settled on penalties with Lisbon beating Richmond 4-3. The losing semi-finalists were Fletcher Moss and FC Sports.
A spokesman said: “Many thanks to our local MP David Rutley, who came down to see us, as well as Macclesfield Mayor, Cllr Alift Harewood-Jones and her consort Mr Peter Jones.”
Chrome Motors managing director Danny Towns was delighted with the day and very appreciative of the support from the local area.
He commented: “This event is just one part of the work that we do in supporting the local community and we very much appreciate the contribution made by other organisations.
“A massive thank you to all of the players who made it such a great day.”
