Gaffer’s family on board with campaign fund

- SHELDAN KEAY

MACCLESFIELD Town’s campaign fund has been given a boost by a familiar name, after the parents of manager John Askey contributed to the cause.

A cheque of £600 was presented to the Silkmen on Saturday ahead of Macclesfield’s pre-season friendly with Stockport County.

John’s father was more than happy to pledge money to the campaign fund and show support to his son.

“Obviously my son has been here for over 30 years now, so Macclesfield Town is in the blood and we wanted to help the football club hopefully reach the Football League again,” Mr Askey told the club’s official website.

“Football seems to be about money today more so than ever, but we can help and we have helped and now hopefully Macclesfield Town can go on to better things.”

Along with Askey’s parents, there was also a sizeable donation from supporter Andrew Reid, who handed over £1000 to the fund.

“My children were both born in Macclesfield and Cheshire is a great county to live in. I thought this was a really important cause,” said Reid.

“I live six miles away and have mates of mine that come here and Steve Watson, who is also a good friend, is obviously now on the coaching team.

“If I can help out I will do because it’s about putting money back in to the community and helping out the local football team.”

Fans can still contribute to the campaign fund and more information can be found on the Macclesfield Town website.
