Pensioner, 82, on trial accused of sex offences against young girls

-

AN elderly man has gone on trial accused of sexual offences against young girls and women spanning half a century.

Colin Young, 82, is accused of 14 offences including sexual assault, indecent assault, rape and attempted rape.

The incidents are alleged to have happened to three victims in Macclesfield beginning in the 1950s.

Mr Young, of Knutsford Walk, Macclesfield, denies nine charges of indecent assault, one charge of attempted rape, three charges of rape and one charge of sexual assault.

He is standing trial at Chester Crown Court.

The jury heard claims that the defendant’s behaviour was ‘predatory’.

Prosecutor Owen Evans said: “Mr Young is an old man with a dark secret. He has a sexual interest in young girls and targets them to satisfy his own desires.”

The court heard that the ‘secret’ emerged after a girl complained that Mr Young had touched her bottom.

Mr Evans said: “He took each opportunity to abuse [the first victim].

“It stopped when he was on various postings with the RAF.”

Speaking about one of the other alleged crimes, Mr Evans added: “He roughly raped [a woman] in Macclesfield.

“He said no one would ever believe her.”

Another alleged victim claims he sexually assaulted her in the 1970s when she was a girl.

Milena Bennett, defending, told the court that Mr Young denies any of the allegations took place. Proceeding
