International meeting is a delight for Rangers

-

A GIRL guiding group enjoyed a fantastic week at an International Jamboree held in Essex.

The Members of the 3rd Poynton Rangers headed down to the ‘Tereshkova’s Mission’ subcamp at Essex International Jamboree in Chelmsford where they camped for the week with 8,000 scouts and guides from across the globe.

Leader Lyndsay Lamb said the girls had a fantastic time with lots of activities, and even came home with a few prizes after winning first price in the ‘Enterprise Zone’ with their sweet creation ‘Fudge-it on and Budget’.

Lyndsay said: “We took part in lots of activities with clay pigeon shooting, spider’s web, slack lines, fairground and parkour as the girls’ favourites.

“Every evening we had choices of The Academy of Dance nightclub – a 14-17 retreat with sofas, table football, pool and air hockey – The Soft Rock Cafe, Internet cafe, live bands on the main stage, a craft barn, cinema, sports competitions and even a circus every night.

“We also managed to win first prize in the Enterprise Zone, which required the girls to buy ingredients, design and make sweets with a budget and then sell for most profit.

“The Rangers made fudge and named it ‘Fudge-it on and Budget.’ We also won best stall with our ‘human fruit machine’ at the Penny Fair night and also won Funniest Moment in the subcamp awards for our ‘supermarket situation’ – never to be spoken about again.

“We were also super proud of two of the girls, Beth and Lauren, from our unit who won the subcamp heat of EIJ’s Got Talent with their dance and got to perform on the main stage in the finale.

“The 14 Rangers really made Poynton and Cheshire Border Girl Guiding really proud.”

Rangers is a section of Girl Guiding and is for girls aged 14-25. For more information, email Lyndsay.lamb@hotmail. co.uk.
