Visit from a pro is treat for young dancers
DOZENS of young dancers got some extra guidance when a professional dancer who has worked with Whitney Houston and the Black Eyed Peas led a special workshop.
Amy Mayers, manager of Sylk Dance Academy, invited Caramel Soldier to lead a workshop at the academy on Earlsway, with dancers from Jam Dance in Macclesfield and X Academy invited along too.
Caramel, who has appeared at the Brit Awards and in a number of music videos, was able to share her experiences with the dancers and give them tips on how to be the best.
Amy, 29, who set up Sylk, said: “Caramel has 15 years experience as a professional dancer.
“Students from age seven and older warmed up with a challenging House routine, which followed on to Caramel’s new dance style, HART – House and Rwanda Together.
“This new style of dance is fun, sociable and interactive which is why we decided to invite other dance schools to join us and bring everyone together.
“The routine is danced in circles with partners but using intricate footwork and funky Rwandan vibes!
“The beauty of it is that as Caramel travels and teaches the steps to different groups around the UK, everyone will be able to meet up and dance together.”
The Academy also made good use of Caramel, who also judges street dance competitions, to give the academy’s competitive group ‘Hazard’ some tips during a special one-toone session.
Amy added: “The three hours were an amazing experience for all involved and really brought everyone together.
“We plan to host another workshop next year to expand on the style and to combine with more dance schools and companies around the UK.”
