Locks are chopped for cancer cash
A YOUNG woman has shaved her head to raise money for the charity that supported her through cancer.
Molly Turner, 22, from Poynton, had her long hair lopped off at the Acoustic Lounge in Poynton, to raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust.
Friends, family members and wellwishers gathered at the venue to support Molly as she braved the shave.
So far she has raised more than £3,300.
Molly was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in January 2015 and had a thyroidectomy and radioactive iodine treatment at the Christie hospital, where she was supported by Teenage Cancer Trust.
Molly said: “My experience would have been so much harder without the support from my friends and family, and also from Teenage Cancer Trust.
“I also went to events with Teenage Cancer Trust, where I could meet other people my age with cancer, including some with the same kind as me. It was so important for me to realise that I wasn’t alone and to talk about everything that had happened with other people. We could give each other advice and just share our opinions with each other.”
Molly had a scan in May this year, which showed that her treatment had worked. She decided to plan a fundraising event in celebration.
She said: “I know it might sound weird, but I’ve always thought about shaving my head. I think it might be curiosity or something. Having had cancer and being provided with a really good cause to fundraise for gave me a great excuse to just do it.
“The actual evening was amazing, as everyone has really got behind me and I genuinely feel so unbelievably blessed. My new hair might take a bit of getting used to but I’m so glad I did it and I have no doubt whatsoever that the money raised will be put to good use improving the lives of other young people with cancer and making the whole experience that little bit less rubbish.”
