Lessons to learn from York loss

- NATIONAL LEAGUE

MACCLESFIELD Town assistant manager Steve Watson hopes the side will learn from the defeat to York City.

Matt Fry’s second-half goal was enough to condemn the Silkmen to defeat at Bootham Crescent.

Macclesfield missed a number of opportunities in the match, and Watson is keen to make sure they aren’t as wasteful in the future.

“I think we had enough chances if not to win then to certainly get something out of the game. We created a lot more chances from open play, I thought the only real danger that we found was set pieces,” he told the club’s official website.

“We lost our way a little bit after the goal, a got sucked into playing direct which isn’t our style, and it was very frustrating in the end to come away with nothing.

“You get nights like that where things don’t drop for you, and as I said before we had a lot of chances that didn’t drop for us, but those are the nights where you keep things tight, don’t make any bad decisions, and come away with a point.

“We didn’t against York, we made one or two bad decisions which turned out to be costly. It was a completely different game from last Saturday against Torquay.

“York have just come down, they’ve brought in a lot of new players, and we knew they would have a lot of good footballers out there.

“Despite that there wasn’t a lot wrong creating chances against a team that’s probably going to be up there at the end of the season. It was a long journey back after York, it always is when you don’t pick up points.”

York have gone unbeaten in the National League during their three games, having also had draws with Maidstone United and Boreham Wood.
