Abigail smashes GCSE goal
A FORMER Tytherington School pupil has scooped an apprenticeship at a prestigious car dealership.
Straight A student Sam Smith, 18, who lives in Tytherington, beat off competition from more than 1,000 candidates to secure one of the 36 posts at Bentley Motors in Macclesfield.
After leaving Tytherington School’s Sixth Form last year with three Grade As at A-Level, he worked for Intersafety in Adlington for a year, a protective clothing and safety products distributor and now, thanks to his experience there, the ambitious teenager will begin his new role at Bentley.
Manny Botwe, headteacher, said: “Sam is convinced he wouldn’t have secured this position had he had applied while at school completing his A-Levels. A BUDDING hockey star is off to The King’s School in Macclesfield after scoring impressive GCSE results.
Beech Hall School pupil Abigail Cook, from Tytherington Drive, scooped 9 GCSEs, stacking up 6A*s, in Science, English Language, English Literature, French, Geography, and History.
And it is not only the classroom where the sporty youngster, 16, excels.
She plays Hockey for the Cheshire U17 team
“Twelve months real work experience has given him time to thoroughly consider his options and given him a competitive edge by helping him develop the skills and confidence to succeed in his application.
“And perhaps more importantly, he’s now convinced this is what he wants to do.”
He added: “It’s great to see local organisations working together to provide great opportunities for young people and we want to encourage more youngsters to think about the range of options open to them after they leave school.”
As well as working with local businesses, the school works with the Macclesfield Pledge, bringing youngsters and businesses together.
Trevor Langston, from The Pledge, said: “We’re so pleased for Sam, Bentley and Interserve. and has recently succeeded in making it onto the northwest England U17 Hockey Team.
