Sutton Show returns to town

-

THE Sutton ExServicemen’s Annual Flower and Vegetable Show and scarecrow competition is this weekend.

On Sunday (September 4), a whole host of flowers, vegetables, cakes and crafts will be on display in a huge marquee at Spooners Flats, Hollin Lane, Sutton.

As well as the usual offerings, there will also be an award for the ‘world’s best lemon cheese’.

Rob Barnard, show secretary, said: “It really is a great achievement for a village show like ours to reach the fantastic ‘Golden Anniversary’ landmark – thanks to you all for your support over the years.

“After great interest and much research we are delighted to be staging the ‘World Lemon Cheese Championship’.

“We have made a slight change to the ‘Collection of Vegetables’ class, reducing the number of kinds of vegetables to be staged from six to five, just to try and encourage a few more entries. Special thanks must again go to our friends at Jobling Gowler Solicitors for their wonderful, continued support.”

The marquee will be open to the public from 2.30pm, when the winners of each category will also be announced.

The deadline for entries into the Grand Scarecrow Competition is also looming, with entries due before 10am on Friday, September 2.

There is a £25 prize for the best scarecrow, with £15 for second and £10 for third place.

Entries must be on display from Saturday, September 3, and left in place until Sunday, September 11.

Judging will take place on the first Saturday.

To enter go to Suttonshow.co.uk.
