A great day on greens for open

THE Wilmslow Golf Club Junior Open was again a great success attracting players from as far away as Scotland and the Midlands to enjoy their fabulous course, blessed by good weather.

There was some excellent scoring, led in by Ewan Holt (Stockport GC) with an outstandin­g nett 63 putting him clear of Edward Reed (Royal Birkdale) 67 and Hayat Leung (Heswall) 71.

The best gross of 72 came from Sam Long (Delamere Forest) with 72 and Wilmslow Junior Captain Hywel Shaw had the leading over 15 years nett score of 68 followed by Will Lucas (Styal) 70 and MacKenzie Terry (Wilmslow) 72.

The top girl was nineyear-old Mia Sepe of Wolstanton Golf Club with 74. The winners gave their thanks to all at Wilmslow for their efforts in making the competitio­n a very enjoyable experience both on and off the course, and the players were praised by Wilmslow Captain Peter Higham for their skills and excellent conduct throughout a busy day.

Wilmslow’s men played for the HT Fowle Trophy in a BB Stableford with Anthony O’Rourke and Phil

Wicks leading in with 42 points, one more than Tom Donald and Iain Perkins. The Styal Junior Open had a good attendance of players from across the region and it was won by

Alex Cliffe 68 from Jay Franks 69 and Saksham Bohra and Max Nicholson, both 70.

Styal Juniors also played for the Amy WatsonWrig­ht Memorial Trophy and in top spot with 67 was max Nicholson from Ryan Owen 69 and Joe Blackburn 70.

A Saturday Stableford at Styal had division one topped by David Graham with 37 points, one more than Anton Bardsley and Simon Tracey.

In division two Eugene Brady cruised to victory with 40 points, eight more than Brian Weems, Richard Armstead and Lee O’Connell.

A singles Stableford for Styal ladies was won by Anna Tunna with 41 points, three more than Jenny Merren. The JC Brown Bowl at Alderley Edge was won by Gerald Tatlock with 38 points, chased home by Chris Hills 37 and Brian Boughey 36.

Edge’s ladies were in medal mode with Liz McGuire first past the post with 72 from Barbara Moss 73 and Julie Ricketts 74. It was close in a midweek Stableford at Mottram Hall, with Andy Stubbens winning a cpo on 38 points from Anthony Kenny with Martin Firth next in with 35.

A singles Stableford at Macclesfie­ld was won by

JSSDave Hancox after a cpo on 42 points with Ian Heppell, and hot on their heels with 41 were Gio Vigorito, Paul Lingard and Mark O’Sullivan.

Andrea Cheetham will represent Macclesfie­ld ladies in the 2017 MDLGA Bunty Booth final after winning the club qualifier taking a cpo on 71 from Jennette Brown.

The Seniors Salver at Shrigley Hall was won by Peter Trussell with 40 points ahead of Dave Durling 38 and Howard Stringer 37.

Davenport’s men p played for the Bill Jones Trophy and top of the divisions were Scott Milne after a cpo on 68 with Sam Skade and Liam Campbell, David Powell 67 and Iain Faulkner after a cpo o on 68 with Andrew Holt.

Disley Golf Club are l looking for entries into t their Charity Support Day o on Tuesday, September 6.

It is supporting The Christie gynaecolog­ical fund at the Booby Moore Unit at Stepping Hill Hospital and is for teams of four of any combinatio­n with 9/10 handicaps with a shotgun start at 12.30pm.

The draws have been made for the quarterfin­als in three of the top Manchester Alliance Inter Club Knock outs- the biggest of their kind in the country.

In the Dunham Forest Trophy, in which the club profession­al joins the top six amateur in the club in a singles match-play format, the winners of the quarter-finals will play in the Dumham Forest finals day at Dunham Forest Golf Club on September 17.
