School’s brainy students are record breakers
AS hundreds of kids return to school after six weeks of summer, Macclesfield Academy is in high spirits following record breaking exam results.
The Academy, based at Park Lane Learning Zone, posted their best ever GCSE results.
A fantastic 61 per cent of students were found to have passed both maths and English and achieved five passes at A*-C.
Richard Hedge, headteacher, said: “Once again we are delighted by what our students have achieved. Over the last five years we have proved beyond doubt that a small school offering a personalised curriculum and an enriched experience in a welcoming community can empower its students to scale remarkable heights – whatever their starting point.
“Last year we were proud to receive an educational outcomes award for the progress our students made. It will be some time before the government analysis of pro- gress is complete but the early indications are that the our new “Progress 8” score may well be even better than last year’s. The class of 2016 have broken new records and I am very proud of them all.
“It is always invidious to single out individuals but special mention must be made of the achievements of Maxwell Gilliver, Emily Lyons, Dylan Smith, Ellie Hall, Lily Moores, Tristan Staszko, Shoni Rae, Natasha Boden and Theo Pemberton who all gained at least five As or A*s and, especially of Rosie Gunter and Joseph Richardson who both gained a remarkable 12 GCSEs at this level.
“In addition, Harry Orson, Karolina Minkina, Ryan Davenport, Dylan Smith, Liam Davenport, Hannah Melbourne, Beth Poirette, Sian White, India Campbell, Joe Ratcliffe and Autumn Brown all made outstanding progress from their different starting points and should be congratulated on the outcome of five years’ sustained hard work.”
