READERS reacted to the news that thousands of homes could be built in the green belt bordering Adlington and Poynton. Adrian Barber: Green belt sites are a complete cop out. Erosion of the green belt must always be taken seriously, it’s not sustainable to just go for the easy option and add another estate on a field that should be providing sustenance for the country. Jill Thomason-Stewart: Affordable homes desperately needed but the transport links are strug- gling as it is, hopefully that’s something that will improve when the A6MARR and the Poynton Bypass are finished. A34 is beyond a joke these days... James Matty: We need more homes asap. I don’t want my grandchildren struggling to find a home or waiting years on the housing waiting list all because of today’s middle class creating problems. The housing list is long enough as it is so God knows how worse the problem will be in 50 years if these moaners get their way. Stewart Powell: It would be alright if the houses will be affordable, but somehow I don’t think they will be unless you’re on a mega salary. I think the trouble of young couples not being able to buy their own house is because people with a few bob are buying them all up for investments. Paul Dunlevy: Stuff the brown fields. Poor access and backwards thinking. Pinch a field or two and move forward. Zoe Shephard: You have not exhausted the brown field sites yet. THE news that Macclesfield is bringing back a town crier generated a mixed response from Facebook followers. Timm Wilson: Give it to the bloke who sells the Big Issue outside Marks and dresses up and sings. He’s the best thing about Macc anyway. Claire Lackford: Yeah, he’s really lovely. Always cheerful. Chris Worthington: That’s probably about 2 or 3 families council tax that they worked hard to pay for, sure they would love to see that’s what their money went on. Pauline Stallard: Having just read in your paper how much the budgets are being cut in local schools, I can’t help feeling it’s a waste of money. Kerry Tute: When they are discussing local government being able to increase council tax to pay for social care, this is pretty irresponsible... Cynthia Stafford: Thought the council was short of money and making cutbacks, not wasting money on unnecessary expenditure. Rob Bolt: Two grand could do a lot of good elsewhere like a local charity. Town crier is a complete waste of money. Everton Karen: I like it. We want our country back...well this is a little bit of it x Gaz Everton Murphy: 21st century, no thanks we don’t need one. Val Pownall: Why do we need one? I’ve never understood what they’re supposed to be doing. Russ Machin: Great idea, bring back an old tradition. Shop around for the clothes though, £2,000 is a bit steep. Steph Jackson: Yawn... how incredibly old fashioned. Zoe Shephard: No that’s crazy use of money.
