A NURSE specialising in delivering drug and alcohol support in the town has won recognition for her ground-breaking work.

Linda Johnstone is lead nurse and clinical director for substance misuse services at Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CWP), based at the Barnabas Centre in Macclesfield.

She was named an ‘Inspirational Leader’ at the NHS North West Leadership Academy Recognition Awards.

Linda has been working for the NHS for over 20 years as a nurse. She has been involved with projects aimed at preventing HIV in sex workers while additionally providing support for victims of sexual assault and has also led a number of other initiatives.

She said: “I’m honoured to have been named ‘Inspirational Leader’ at such a prestigious event.

“I couldn’t have won this award without the help of the fantastic teams I’ve worked with.”

Jane Newcombe, CWP clinical services manager, who nominated Linda, said: “Linda’s drive and commitment is second to none.

“She is fully committed to ensuring patients are treated with dignity and respect by the nursing team, frequently going the extra mile to care for people who would not usually engage with wider health services.”
