Walking by starlight
ONE of East Cheshire’s most popular fundraising events is now open for entries.
The family-friendly Starlight Walk, now in its fifth year, is one of East Cheshire Hospices’ flagship events raising more than £35,000 last year with walkers enjoying the 100 acres of picturesque parkland at Capesthorne Hall.
Around 600 people enjoyed a dry evening last year and event organiser, Jessica Ruth, is hoping for an even bigger turn-out for this year’s walk on April 21.
“There is always a terrific atmosphere at the Starlight Walk with everyone joining in the spirit of the occasion,” she says.
Many of the participants taking part do so in memory of a loved one with many personalising the walk by placing a lantern or candle along ‘memory lane,’ throwing a personalised pebble into the lake or heading to the Field of Celebration in remembrance.
“Starlight Walk is part of the bereavement journey for many people and a fitting way of helping them remember loved ones,” says Jessica.
As in previous years, walkers are able to choose their distance - one loop of the route for 2.5k, two loops for 5k or four loops for 10k and everyone will receive a free specially designed T-shirt and a medal to mark the occasion.
The Starlight Walk is always a family-friendly event with live music, hot food and drinks with gates opening from 6pm, well before the walk which starts at 7.30pm.
Free parking is available.
Tickets are £15 for adults and £10 for children - to register please go to https:// www.east cheshire lhospice.org.uk/starlight or call 01625 433477 for more information.
