Rest has us fresh: Hancox

- SHELDAN KEAY

MACCLESFIELD Town defender Mitch Hancox believes the three-week break between matches could have actually benefitted his side ahead of the FA Trophy final.

There were some concerns that not having a competitive game over such a long period could leave Macc not at their best, but Hancox thinks it has had the opposite effect.

“Since we came back all the lads’ energy levels have been right at it,” he said.“We had a massive fixture pile up come the end of the season so we needed that rest, but the lads look sharp and raring to go.

“All the lads have been right at it – you want to impress where you can and you want to be on that team sheet come the game so hopefully I’ll be playing.

“If you give it your all in training and give yourself the best chance that’s all you can do.

“The lads can’t wait, and speaking for myself I can’t wait for the game to start. We’ve just got to prepare for the game and make sure we’re right come the day.”

It will be a special day for Macclesfield when they take on York City this weekend, and Hancox is glad his family will be there to experience it with him.

“It’s a great day out for my family too, they’re coming down from Birmingham,” he said.“I just can’t wait for the day now, all the build-up is going to be crazy and we’ve just got to embrace it, then when the game comes try and win it.

There’s obviously a massive build up about it and it’s going to be on TV, but it’s just about going to the game and playing.”
