Brewery’s beer put on shelves in Co-op deal
AFA M I LY- R U N brewery will see its award- winning beer on the shelves of supermarkets across the county.
RedWillow Brewery, which is based on Byrons Lane, Macclesfield, was established by Toby and Caroline McKenzie in 2010, who have gone on to produce a number of award winning ales.
Now the couple, who also run RedWillow Bar on Park Green, have won a contract to supply two of its canned beers to the Co-op, which will sell the beer at 80 of its stores.
Toby, who gave up his IT job and commute to London to pursue his passion for brewing, said: “We are delighted to be working with the Co-op. Its heritage, ethical and local, c o m mu n i t y - b a s e d approach is a great fit with our business.
“The timing is great following our investment in a new canning line, and the widespread reach of the Co-op’s stores will help to reach parts of Cheshire where our beers are not currently available.
“This will support our business development, build awareness of our brand and open up new markets for our beers in communities across Cheshire.”
RedWillow’s awardwinning Wreckless Pale Ale and Weightless Session IPA will both be stocked in 330ml cans as part of the deal, which is estimated to be worth 12,000 pints for the business.
Simon Dryell, ranging manager for the Co-op in Cheshire, said the Co-op has committed to doubling the number of its smaller suppliers and to provide opportunities to champion, showcase and celebrate locally sourced produce.
He said: “It’s exciting to collaborate with breweries such as RedWillow – it is the innovation, quality, traditions and passion which make these prized local products, and we are delighted to give them pride of place in our stores.
“We know that food provenance really matters to our customers. Quality and trust are key for consumers.
“Backing local produce is about much more than just ‘hanging out the bunting’ and the Co-op is committed to investing in its local communities and providing opportunities to showcase and celebrate great local food and drink.”
