My pupils were among injured says headteacher

- STUART GREER

ASCHOOL in Macclesfield has confirmed that a number of its students were injured in the Manchester terror attack.

The pupils, who attend Fallibroome Academy, were ‘ very close’ to the explosion but were not ‘critically hurt’, according to headteacher Francis Power.

Mr Power said that the school was supporting the students and their families.

At least 12 students at Fallibroome were at the concert on May 22.

Mr Power told the Express: “Twelve Fallib- roome students attended the Ariana Grande concert at the Arena last month.

“While some were very close to the incident, none were critically injured. We have been working with the families involved and providing all the support we can.

“At their request, we are keeping this support very low profile as we are trying to help our students return to normality as soon as they can.”

Craig Jones, a teaching assistant at the school, got a bee tattoo because ‘the attack directly affected’ the community.

The 30-year-old, from Macclesfield, said: “Students who I support were injured in the blast, colleagues who I work with had taught some of those that died.

“This was something that shattered the illusion of safety we all have thinking ‘it’ll never happen to us’. I’ve been to the arena countless times and have never once thought about not coming home.

“Whilst these thoughts may now enter my head, I’ll always have the tattoo as a visual reminder that you still need to do these types of things and live your life to the full as if you don’t, the people who commit these horrible acts will have succeeded.”

Three other local schools have confirmed their pupils and staff were caught up in the attack – Tytherington, Poynton High and Macclesfield Academy.

All three schools said that none of their pupils were injured in the terror attack.
