Kids take a walk on the wild side for school fair
STAFF, students, parents and guests at Beech Hall School celebrated the arrival of summer with a Wild Wild West festival.
Guests were invited to dress as cowboys and cowgirls for the fun filled day, which included a bucking bronco, tin can alley, donkey rides and face painting. And the school’s swimming pool - aka the Watering Hole - was also open for those who wanted a swim.
Pupils from nursery to Upper II had a busy few weeks making crafts such as printed t-shirts, heart shaped tiles, terracotta ‘pinch’ pots, silk paintings and dream catchers which were sold at the festival.
The ‘basket’ bash raffle was especially popular with congratulations to Mr James Jardine, the newest member of the Beech Hall staff, who enjoyed his first event and secured a win.
All money raised will go to the Beech Hall Parents Association - which supports and raises funds for the school, currently focusing on enhancing the technological resources at the school.
James Allen, headmaster, said: “It was such a great day, everyone got involved and had a lot of fun. Thankfully the sun came out which just made it all the better. I also want to thank Mrs Tandy Palmes on behalf of the school for taking lots of wonderful photos so we can continue to enjoy the memories.”
The school has also taken the opportunity to help parents and teachers across the town gain a better understanding of mental health, inviting 75 parents, teachers and visitors from neighbouring schools to listen to a talk by Julie Paterson.
Julie’s conference provided guests with an overview of mental health, early warning signs and how to support children with mental health difficulties in the classroom and at home.
Mr Allen added: “Mental Health is incredibly topical at the moment and the conference was a fantastic way to raise awareness and to help people recognise the signs. Julie was a brilliant speaker and was very engaging with the guests. The event was a huge success and further educated everyone on this sensitive but prominent issue. It made us all stop and think and has encouraged us to further delve into mental health and its signs so we can do the very best for the younger generation.”
Beech Hall School’s next conference will be held on Wednesday 11 October with the CEO of the NSPCC Peter Wanless. For more go to www.beechhallschool. org or call on 01625 422 192.
