Helen dives into lottery job

-

FORMER swimming instructor Helen Ashby had no qualms about taking the plunge and becoming lottery administrator at East Cheshire Hospice.

Helen, from Bollington, already knew what working in the charity sector was like after teaching swimming for Bollington Health and Leisure.

One of her first tasks is to sign up more players for the hospice lottery, encouraging them to take advantage of their new direct debit facility on the website.

Helen said: “I’ve joined a different charity but it’s a very similar ethos supporting people any way we can so they can have a better life. Both charities are highly regarded in the local community.

“I’ve been amazed at the generosity of people willing to support the hospice, and the lottery is an easy way to support us on a regular basis. The advantage of our new lottery direct debit system is that people can play online by filling in a form, although we also accept telephone applications.

“Everyone seems to have a positive story about the hospice and its support for family and friends and the way it treats staff. It’s great to be part of the team supporting the front-line nursing staff.”

The hospice needs £7,500 every day to keep going and the lottery has contributed more than £3.7m since it began in 1995. At just £1 a week there’s a chance to win a guaranteed jackpot of £1,000, plus 22 other cash prizes.

Helen added: “It’s only £4.34 a month to enter and we’re keen to attract more members. One of the lottery’s great strengths is that local money is being used to provide local care for people in our community. That support is vital for us.

Winning numbers are selected randomly every Friday and published on the website and in the Express. To join go to eastcheshirehospice.org. uk/lottery or call 01625 433477 (Ext 2).
