- GOLF GEOFF GARNETT

THE Balfour and Houldsworth competitions have been running in the Manchester area for well over 110 years and attract excellent entries for the competitions they run throughout the season.

The Houldsworth Cup is a Pairs Bogey competition and it was hosted by Worsley Golf Club in excellent style.

Houldsworth Golf Club has a great record in B and H competitions and have had five previous winners.

The club were delighted when their dynamic duo of Pete Burgess (handicap 8) and Dave Finley (handicap 10) posted a great score of +6 to win a cpo from three other pairs to bring the Houldsworth Cup back to their club.

Former Romiley and now Ringway Golf Club and Cheshire legend Ron Harrison showed his class in the Cheshire President’s Day competition.

It was held at the pristine venue of Chester Golf Club, the home club of the County President Sean Ritchie, and in the singles Stableford Ron, who plays off two handicap posted 35 points to finish ahead of Gareth Bradley (Bramhall GC) 34 and Wilmslow’s Andrew Henshall 33. Also in the mix with 32 points were Brian Humfress (Chester), John Clark (Chester), Steve Britton (Chester) and JP O’Neill (Royal Liverpool).

It’s getting down to the wire in the MDLGA Bell Cup – the biggest regional competition for ladies club teams of its type and in the country and has been played for since 1911.
