135 homes planned on green belt land

-

PLANS have been submitted to build 135 homes on green belt in Henbury.

Frederic Robinson Ltd has put forward a scheme for more than 13 acres of land between Chelford Road and Whirley Road.

The land forms part of a wider area which is allocated for residential development in the Local Plan.

The proposals are for ‘balanced mixed community’ of 94 houses and 41 affordable homes including 31 homes and 10 flats.

These are expected to be a mix of house types including detached, semi-detached and mews style properties.

The development is split into four key areas connected by pedestrian links.

The proposals include new linear park to the west and additional public open space in the south-east corner.

The main access is via Chelford Road with another access road for a small number of units via Whirley Road.

There are some small farm type buildings which will be demolished and the car park for the Cock pub will be relocated.

Developers said the scheme offers several opportunities including: pedestrian links from Whirley Road to Chelford Road; making the frontage on Whirley Road to Chelford Road more attractive; and new parking for The Cock pub.

But it also must overcomes problems including an existing woodland, which the developer says is in ‘poor condition’, and a wetland area in the northern corner.

In a planning statement architects How Planning said: “This vision is to create a unique design led solution which responds to the needs and characteristics of the area and the site forming a reflective identity of Macclesfield.

“To provide a high quality sustainable residential neighbourhood which maintains and enhances the key existing landscape features, integrating the site into the wider area.

“To create a wellinformed attractive neighbourhood, not overly dominated by the car.

“To provide sensitive and robust solutions to the interfaces between existing and proposed dwellings. To create a sense of place with reference to the local architectural language.”

The plans are now available on Cheshire East Council’s planning portal under 17/4277M.

The deadline to comment on the scheme is September 27.
