Emily’s working up muscles with manager role

-

A YOUNG Macclesfield shop manager is building up the muscles to tackle her new job.

Emily Higgins is surprised by the physical demands of her new role as manager of the busy East Cheshire Hospice shop in Thornton Square. She and her small team of volunteer staff have to cope with no less than 50 bags of donated items every day.

“We check every single bag for items to re-cycle or to be auctioned via eBay and then inspect and steam clean the items to keep for the shop,” said Emily. “It’s intense, hard work but no day is ever the same and I love the challenge.”

Emily, 26, is no stranger to the retail world having worked for one of the country’s biggest retailers, Top Shop, for six years.

However, she admits the charity environment is very different.

“The role feels like it has got real purpose which inspires me to be more determined to make it work for the charity,” said Emily. “And, of course, I’m constantly supported by our team of volunteers.”

Emily, who is originally from Buxton and now lives in Bramhall, plans to almost double the size of her 25-strong volunteer team over the next few months.

“It’s a great environment to work in and we’d be delighted if we could take on some more volunteers to help us out – even if it’s only for a few hours every week,” she said.

Anyone who would like to volunteer should contact Emily on 01625 408992.
