Woking deliver
DESPITE dominating proceedings at Moss Rose throughout the game, three goals against the run of play for Woking meant the Silkmen’s unbeaten run came to an end.
Both managers opted to name unchanged side’s coming into the game with Koby Arthur regaining his place on the Silkmen bench.
Macclesfield and Durrell caused problems for Woking early on in the first half and four minutes in he burst through on goal but he dragged his shot wide.
Then six minutes later Durrell again took aim, but his shot sailed over Nathan Baxter’s goal.
The first twenty minutes saw Macc firmly in control and they deservedly took the lead with Elliot Durrell’s first goal for the Silkmen, after eighteen minutes.
Tyrone Marsh fired an excellent cross into the box and Durrell was there to head into the net, leaving Baxter with no chance.
It was one-way traffic in the first half up to then but against the run of play the visitors equalised in what was a frantic five minutes.
Jason Banton found space from the right wing and took aim at goal, his shot trickled into the net via Shwan Jalal for the equaliser.
Straight after Jalal was called into action again but this time he produced a stunning triple save to keep the score level, denying Woking spectacularly from close range.
Both teams then had chances to edge ahead, Tyrone Marsh and Gime Toure both saw their efforts saved by Baxter in the Woking goal and Joe Ward was denied at the other end of the pitch.
Then Woking turned the score on its head on 41 minutes.
Neat play between Banton and Effiong allowed the Cards to play in Joe Ward who cut in on the left wing and curled a neat finish into the net with the help of the post.
One minute before the half ended, Town were somehow denied an equaliser.
Great work down the left side by Gime Toure allowed the Frenchman to dance around the Woking defence to the bar line.
He squared the ball to Whitaker six yards out but his shot was miraculously blocked on the line by Nathan Ralph and somehow the score stayed at 1-2 as the players headed down the tunnel for half time.
Straight after the team came out for the second half Macc had the first chance of the half.
Toure again used his neat footwork to carve out a chance for Tyrone Marsh who then rounded Baxter only for Nathan Ralph again to deny Town with a last ditch sliding challenge.
Macclesfield had already been denied by two last ditch efforts but this time the post was in the way of an equaliser. Keith Lowe’s long-range pass found its way over the Woking defence to Whitaker whose powerful shot crashed off the post.
Three minutes later it was the visitors who were denied by the post. Effiong found the angle for a shot in the box and he poked the ball against the post before Yates cleared to safety.
Macclesfield continued to threaten and again Whitaker and Marsh linked up well before the latter’s shot was wellsaved by Baxter.
Further chances fell to the Silkmen later in the half both Marsh and Lowe fired over the bar as they continued to search for the goal.
