Reception volunteers wanted

-

EAST Cheshire Hospice is hoping to recruit volunteers to help out on reception at its Millbank Drive site at weekends.

The charity has a flexible rota, which might mean volunteers assisting even just for two or three hours every few weeks.

The hospice is appealing for people of all ages to come forward and full training will be provided.

Rachel Allcock began volunteering on reception on Sundays a few months ago, and manages to juggle a busy schedule which involves a full-time role as hospice marketing manager and looking after her nine-year-old daughter.

Rachel said: “I was slightly nervous when I started because I’d never used a till before, or worked in retail, but I received good training and there’s a clear guide book on what to do.

“It’s all fairly straightforward and it’s nice to see a different side to the hospice.

“Duties involve answering the phone, accepting donations and payments for gifts in the shop, and greeting people visiting patients.

“A lot of people are glad of a chat with a friendly face and the shifts only last two or three hours.

“People don’t need to volunteer every week, they can sign up every few weeks or whatever fits for them.

“It’s a brilliant way to support the hospice and maybe build up valuable customer service skills for a CV.

“The reception staff during the week are also all volunteers and the charity wouldn’t exist without those who help out in so many different ways.”
