Experts unite to help dementia patients

-

HEALTH experts from two NHS trusts have come together to improve care for patients who suffer with dementia.

Staff from Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust’s (CWP) Croft Ward at the Millbrook Unit at Macclesfield Hospital have been working alongside colleagues from East Cheshire NHS Trust which runs the hospital to share knowledge.

This is around topics such as falls prevention, therapies including music, sensory, art and physiotherapy and end-of-life care.

The project has highlighted the common ground between physical and mental healthcare and aims to ensure that patients are being cared for in the right place.

Katy Dunn, senior sister East Cheshire NHS Trust, said: “Sharing a joint approach to dementia care has enabled us to draw on staff ’s expertise and ensure that our patients are cared for in the right place by supporting each other.

“Building positive relationships between the trusts has ensured that patients are treated in the place best suited to their needs, with ongoing support and expert consultation.

“This in turn reassures patients and carers that their needs are being met.”
