Bin collection days alter for Christmas
HOMEOWNERS are being told to expect some changes to their bin collections over Christmas.
As both Christmas and New Year’s Day fall on a Monday, households that usually have collections on these days will see a change.
Households which usually see collections on Tuesday will also see a change in their scheduled collections as there will be no collections on Boxing Day.
For the majority of people, bin collections will carry on as usual.
Garden waste collections will stop for two months over winter.
There will be no green bin collections between Sunday, December 3, and Sunday, February 11.
Ansa, a council owned company which runs waste and recycling services, has also told people to keep an eye out for the stickers which will be placed on their bins over the festive period.
Waste and recycling collections will return to normal from Tuesday, January 2.
Councillor Don Stockton, cabinet member for environment, said: “Once again the council has kept the interruption to the festive period household waste collection service to the absolute minimum.
“I would urge residents whose collections would normally take place on a Monday or Tuesday, to make a note of the changes in order to help our refuse teams to work as efficiently as possible.
“The festive period traditionally generates far more domestic refuse than usual and so I would encourage householders to help us by making use of our recycling centres when necessary and where possible.
“Recycling centres will also be open throughout the holiday period - except for Christmas Day - and residents are urged to make use of the sites to dispose of recyclable and nonrecyclable waste, apart from food waste.”
