Zoe’s art out of this world

- DOMINIC SMITHERS

ATALENTED artist is set for an emotional return to her childhood gallery as her works go on display.

Zoe Watson, from Poynton, will unveil some of her art which she hopes will take viewers to another world.

But this exhibition has much deeper meaning for Zoe than just art.

Her late father Bryan Winship Watson was also a talented painter and sculptor and would take her to the very same gallery when she was a little girl.

The mum-of-one said: “My father was an artist and sculptor working on Greek mythology.

“He went to art school in the 1940s. He loved to draw and paint and sculpt and he totally encouraged me throughout my life.

“He used to take me to this gallery as a child and so this is my tribute to dad, and although he knew about it he sadly passed away since so it will now be in his memory.

“Despite his Alzheimer’s, towards the end he still recognised me and nodded and smiled when I told him about the exhibition. There is love for him in every painting, there always will be.”

Now following in her father’s footsteps, 53-year-old Zoe says she can’t wait for the exhibition to start.

She said: “I am very proud to be showing my work at there because I believe it would have made my father proud had he still been with us.

“I contacted the gallery about it because I wanted to honour my father and thank them for inspiring me as a child - galleries are an enticing window, especially to children.”

And taking inspiration from the likes of Romantic painters, such as J.M.W Turner, whose work hers will sit alongside in the gallery, Zoe uses nature to inform her work.

She said: “I just find constellations, nebulae and the heavens amazing. The images are so mesmerising and captivating. I also quite enjoy photography and I take a lot of photos of the sky. I really like the ethereal and the untouchable I guess.

“I hope that my art will transport people away for a while into another world, a galactic world, Hence the title of my exhibition.”

The exhibition will be shown at The Parsonage Trust Gallery in Didsbury, Manchester, from Sunday, April 1, until April 22.

All proceeds will go to the trust.
